Recession Hot Spots: The Library
During an economic upswing, people are totally cool with going to Best Buy when they're bored and buying five DVDs, or copping a few books on Amazon to put on their shelf to make it seem like they read. In a recession, such extravagance is frowned upon, yet ironically more people are unemployed and actually have time on their hands to enjoy various forms of entertainment. Thankfully, there is this secret little place called the public library that lets you hang out, peruse magazines, and even borrow books, CDs, and DVDs for free. How awesome is that!
Admittedly, we're not the first to catch wind of this amazing deal. The Boston Globe recently reported that libraries are booming in popularity during the economic downturn. How often do you really re-read a book or watch a DVD over and over? If it's that good, then you can buy it guilt-free after testing it out via the library. And if you live in a small town that doesn't have the greatest selection, see if they're amenable to sorting out some interlibrary loans.
Did we mention there's FREE INTERNET!?!? And other unemployed people to befriend!?!?
