Touchdown!
On Saturday, the Division III Trinity Tigers found themselves on their own 39 yard line with two seconds left, needing a touchdown to defeat Milsaps College. For all intents and purposes, the game was done and dusted. But then this happened:
This 46-second, recess-style lateral-fest is probably the craziest football play I have ever seen, including “The Play” and “The Annexation of Puerto Rico.” But more importantly, it’s a remarkable allegory for success in grad life. Sometimes you’ve got to move backwards to get ahead. Sometimes you’ve got to switch directions entirely. And then, when the right opening presents itself, you’ve got to be ready to go for the glory.
What does that mean? I don’t know really. But the point is, never be afraid to throw a lateral. Being mad unpredictable may take you a long way…
